For many of us it was a brother, a sister, or other family member with severe learning differences. Maybe it was a chance encounter that opened your eyes and heart to their world, inspiring you to become a special education teacher.

By whichever path you came to it, you now are in the classroom and challenged to bring children at all stages of the spectrum – from the high functioning to the most isolated -- together for the common cause of learning.

The Lorikeet Learning system has been developed over thirty years by working with these special children in Southeastern, Pennsylvania. Through the use of song, color, pictures, movement, cadence and rhyme “Dr. Mike” Mallee has created a program that will help you accomplish what often seems unachievable – capturing the attention of children coping with autism, Down’s Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, language delays, developmental delays, and brain injury, and transforming them into eager learners, singing their way to independence in reading, math, social studies and daily living skills.

Each module contains all the materials you need for effective lessons in the following areas:

READING: Alphabet Academy, Fun Families, and Phonics Play

MATH: Telling Time, Money Matters, Number Names, Addition Aerobics and Subtraction Sense

SOCIAL STUDIES: Under the Sea, Ancient Egypt, Rain Forest, Medieval Times, Down On The Farm

DAILY LIVING SKILLS: Toilet Training, Getting a Haircut, and Tying Shoes

While these tools are designed for the most hard-to-reach students, all students will benefit from this deep-reaching program -- the effect being an integrated, unified classroom of children at all levels. And as special education funding continues to be reduced, this program will be even more valuable in helping teachers in inclusion classrooms to effectively meet the needs of all students, without hours of special preparation.
